THE THOUGHT MAIL COMPLETE INSTRUCTION SHEET
THOUGHT MAIL has two uses:
1. It is a very effective way of ridding yourself of troubling or repetitive, negative interpersonal-relationship thoughts, and
2. It is an easy and inexpensive way to send nice messages to people.
Let’s take them one at a time.
First, the mean and angry THOUGHT MAILs:
When you’re having trouble with someone, and your mind is filled with mean and angry thoughts of things you wish you had said or things you’d like to say to a certain person, rather than going over and over the same situation countless times in your mind, send the person a THOUGHT MAIL and be done with it.
All it takes is just three easy steps: Think it, Send it, Forget it.
First, THINK IT: Think, in very precise terms, what you want to say to the person, as if you’re composing a letter. If you need help in formulating your thoughts, then actually write a letter to the person, BUT NEVER SEND IT!!! Those last words are VERY important! Sending it and having the person read it will not, in most cases, bring a satisfactory resolution to the matter. Only when the person receives your message in his or her thoughts will your message have its desired effect.
Also, don’t say the words of your THOUGHT MAIL out loud. Just think them. As soon as you verbalize what you’re thinking, you destroy most of the power that is contained in your thoughts.
Next, SEND IT: After you have perfected your message, SEND IT! Make a conscious effort and send your thoughts to the person. Picture yourself propelling the THOUGHT MAIL up into the air, and projecting it on its way.
And lastly, FORGET IT: After you have sent off your THOUGHT MAIL, forget the whole matter.
If you find, however, that after sending off the THOUGHT MAIL you are still not able to forget the matter, send the person another THOUGHT MAIL, either with the same wording or with different wording. Send as many THOUGHT MAILs as you need to until your mind is at rest. Just remember, don’t say the words out loud and NEVER MAIL ANY THOUGHT MAIL PRACTICE LETTERS!!
Now for the nice THOUGHT MAILs:
Send nice THOUGHT MAILs to as many people as you can think of as often as you can, using the same techniques described above for the mean and angry THOUGHT MAILs: namely,
THINK IT: formulate your message precisely (here you are not restricted from sending any THOUGHT MAIL practice letters), and then,
SEND IT: consciously send your THOUGHT MAIL to the person.
(For nice THOUGHT MAILs, you don’t use the FORGET IT function.)
And if you might ask, “But how do I know that they’ll get my message?,” the answer is: you don’t have to know. They’ll either receive your message or they won’t:
If you’re sending a mean and angry THOUGHT MAIL,
· if they receive your message, then there’s no problem. They’ll hear what you have to say, and that’s that.
· If they don’t receive your message, then there’s also no problem, because then the only response they’ll hear from you is silence, and mussar seforim tell us that silence is the most powerful and effective response in a difficult or upsetting situation.
And if you’re sending a nice THOUGHT MAIL, then even if no one ever hears it, it’s okay, because when nice thoughts are in the air everyone benefits.
And you’ll probably be surprised to find out that most of the time they will get your message - even if they’re not actual subscribers to THOUGHT MAIL themselves - and that they will act correspondingly differently toward you the next time you see them or talk to them.
You should try to make it a habit to send at least 3 nice THOUGHT MAILs every day.

SELECTED RELEVANT QUOTATIONS FROM SEFORIM HAKEDOSHIM
ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE ABOVE AND OTHER QUOTATIONS
· (Rav Dessler, Michtav Mei'Eiliyahu, vol. 3, p. 97) Hashem, be He blessed, created Man in such a way that his will is able to achieve great things, because behold, Hashem made him in the image of G-d; and just as the will of Hashem is what achieves and creates everything, Hashem gave a resemblance of this power to Man - that with man’s will alone he is able to do much. Even though we see many times that a man’s will is not able to be actualized, this is only because the wills of other people oppose his will; but if all men were united with one desire, nothing could stand before their will.
· (Lekutei Moharan, v. 1, 49:1) Good thoughts are the Yetzer Tov and bad thought are the yetzer hora.
· (Megillah 18a) Rabbi Yehudah, a man from Kfar Giboraya, and some say a man from Kfar Gibor Chayil, explained: “What is the meaning of the verse (Tehillim 65:2), ‘For You [Hashem], silence is praise’? The best medicine of all is silence.” When Rav Dimi came he said, “In the West (the land of Israel) they say, ‘A word is worth a sela, silence is worth two.’”
· (Sfas Emes, parshas Shofetim, 637, s.v. Shofetim) Through our carefully trying to understand the power of Hashem, be He blessed, in the creation of the world, we can learn how very much deeper are His thoughts, because the thought is always deeper than the action.
· (Baal Shem Tov on the Torah, Amud Hatefillah, note 153, from the book Meor Einayim) …we will go up to Above, to the World of Thought, a place where there is no judgment, and no Satan, and no bad occurrence, G-d forbid, only complete Good.
· (Noam Elimelech, parshas Bamidbar, s.v. V’od) The soul of man is created from under the Kisei HaKavod, which is the World of Thought.
· (The Gra [The Vilna Gaon], Alim L’trufah, Igeres HaGra, version year 626) And the person who merits to shut his mouth, merits to The Hidden Light and unmeasurable abundance.
· (Rav Dessler, Michtav Mei'Eiliyahu, vol. 4, p. 5) The souls of all people are tied and joined one to another, and their lives are dependent on one another in their spiritual root.
"It’s the thought that counts."
