THE EXCITEMENT!!! POPPER
discipline revisited

Helps you control anxiety, hyperactivity, mood swings, erratic behavior and depression
- in both you and your children.
This webpage is best viewed in Internet Explorer, even though it loads much faster in other browsers, because IE is the only browser in which the fireworks show up (and they're fun to see).
Are you tired of how hyperactive, excited and wild your children get at times?  Are you fed up with how you yourself get too excited, or erratic, or too happy, or maybe how you sometimes laugh too much or at the wrong times, only to dislike yourself because of it or to feel down or very nervous or even fall into a depression afterwards, chos v’shalom?

If you would like your children to be steadier, more serious and more able to apply themselves; if you would like yourself to be calmer and steadier without all the emotional ups and downs, then The Excitement!!! Popper is for you.  It POPS the excitement that is the cause of the above problems.
The Excitement!!! Popper is a small black box that makes a popping sound when you press its button.
The Excitement!!! Popper is different from our other products and product ideas in that it requires you to do some self-training before it can be effective.  The training that you have to do is to learn how to Scowl-And-Glare.  A Scowl-And-Glare is exactly what it sounds like: you scowl and glare at yourself or at the person whose excitement you are trying to pop.

A SCOWL-AND-GLARE is different from and more effective than yelling, since a SCOWL-AND-GLARE is “pointed,” whereas most yelling is expansive: that is, it goes out in all directions (unless you are one of those people who can give “pointed yelling,” and if you are then you probably won’t be needing The Excitement!!! Popper).  Since a SCOWL-AND-GLARE is pointed, it can penetrate into the insides of its recipient and cause a positive internal rearrangement.  Not so with multidirectional yelling, which just scatters in all directions without accomplishing any lasting internal change (more often than not, it just makes the person being yelled at laugh or smirk).
The following are the rules for giving a SCOWL-AND-GLARE:
· You give a SCOWL-AND-GLARE lovingly, but firmly.
· You give it in order to improve the person who receives it.
· You give it to destroy the wildness (not to destroy the person).
· You give it because you want the best for the recipient.
· You give it to put the recipient’s yetzer hora in its place, so that his or her Yetzer Tov can shine forth.
The same rules also apply when you give a SCOWL-AND-GLARE to yourself.  If your parents didn’t give you appropriate SCOWL-AND-GLAREs while you were growing up - either because of their liberalism, ignorance, inability or neglect (make sure you judge them favorably regardless [See our product idea, The See Their Good / See Their Bad Glass]) - then in order to get yourself straightened out you are going to have to give the SCOWL-AND-GLAREs to yourself now, or find someone else who will give them to you - the latter is the more effective choice but often harder to arrange. (The desire for a SCOWL-AND-GLARE is actually what is motivating people when they disturb other people either with loud talking or loud music or laughing or making fun of others, etc.  Underneath the inconsideration and obnoxiousness is their neshamah crying out for someone to give them a SCOWL-AND-GLARE.  So make sure you give them as many SCOWL-AND-GLAREs as they need, and don’t get angry at them while you are doing it.  You are actually helping them out tremendously by giving their soul that which it needed, never got and is now crying out in order to get.)

IMPORTANT WARNING:  When you give a SCOWL-AND-GLARE to yourself make sure you don’t use the mirror to do it.  Giving yourself a SCOWL-AND-GLARE in a mirror can damage your eyes.  Rather, just give yourself your SCOWL-AND-GLAREs in your mind, without using a mirror.)
So now first you need to practice until you can give a SCOWL-AND-GLARE and really mean business with it.  Then any time you want to “pop” someone’s (or your own) excitement, SCOWL-AND-GLARE at them (or at yourself - but not in a mirror) and at the same time press the button on The Excitement!!! Popper, which causes it to make a loud popping sound (you can do it now on the control underneath the machine's picture above).  This results in the sequence called a SCOWL-GLARE-AND-POP.  The first few times you give a SCOWL-GLARE-AND-POP to anyone (including to yourself), the reaction you’ll probably get will be laughing, maybe even wild laughing (including from yourself).  Pay it no mind.  Merely SCOWL-GLARE-AND-POP at that also.  The more often you repeat the SCOWL-GLARE-AND-POP sequence, the more “conditioned” the recipient(s) (yourself) will become, until eventually just a “POP” from The Excitement!!! Popper will do the job of calming everyone down, with no longer any need for the SCOWL-AND-GLARE component.  (Conversely, you might find that the SCOWL-AND-GLARE is enough, without the need for the POP.)

But that’s not all the training you need to do, baruch Hashem.  Along with your SCOWL-AND-GLARE training you also must diligently work on becoming free of all your bad middos, bad thoughts, bad desires and bad actions, because your bad middos, bad thoughts, bad desires and bad actions, no matter how slight, mild or infrequent, will interfere with your ability to give an effective SCOWL-AND-GLARE, consequently diminishing the effectiveness of The Excitement!!! PopperThe Excitement!!! Popper can still be useful even while you are still laden with bad middos, bad thoughts, bad desires and/or bad actions, but the freer you are of them, the better the results will be.
· If you have a lot of things to do and you are excitedly running around trying to do them all, POP THE EXCITEMENT and do them without the excitement.
· If you are finally doing something to which you’ve been looking forward for a long time and you are very excited about it, POP THE EXCITEMENT and do it without the excitement.
· If you’ve just been given an honor of any sort, big or small, and you are excited about it, POP THE EXCITEMENT and accept the honor without the excitement.
· If you’ve just done something very, very nice for someone and you are feeling really good about it, POP THE EXCITEMENT and be grateful that you were able to do it, but without the excitement.
· If you’ve just had a victory of any sort, big or small, and you're excited about it, POP THE EXCITEMENT and just be grateful without the excitement.
· If you're looking forward to doing something and every time you think about it you get excited, POP THE EXCITEMENT and anticipate it without the excitement.
WARNING!: You have to make sure that what you’re giving is a SCOWL-AND-GLARE and not the more popular LOOK-AND-HATE.  The following table will help to clarify the differences.
WARNING!YOU MUST BE CAREFUL when practicing or when giving your SCOWL-AND-GLARE that you don’t do it with too much force, for it can possibly cause damage to your eyes if done too forcefully.  If you experience any strain or pain in your eyes while SCOWL-AND-GLAREing it means you are doing it with too much force, and therefore you must lighten up until you feel no strain or pain. Remember, it’s not the force with which your SCOWL-AND-GLARE is given that makes it effective, rather it’s your degree of lack of bad middos, bad thoughts, bad desires and bad actions that does it.
Pop your excitement enough times and it turns into happiness and gratitude.” (See our product idea, The Gratitude Book.)
SELECTED RELEVANT QUOTATIONS FROM SEFORIM HAKEDOSHIM
ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF SOME OF THE ABOVE AND OTHER QUOTATIONS
· (Koheles [Ecclesiastices] 7:3)  Anger is better than laughter because with badness of face is gladness of heart.

· (Koheles 9:17)  Words of wise people are heard in calmness.

· (Shabbos 30b)  …like that which Rabbah did: before he started [to teach] the Rabbis, he would say [to them] something funny and the Rabbis would laugh.  And afterwards he would sit with trepidation and begin his teaching.

· (Sfas Emes, parshas toldos, year 632, s.v. gam…to be an absolute hater of the yetzer hora….

· (Maharal, Nesivos Olum, Nesiv Ha’avodah, perek 13, s.v. mitzvah)  …because sin is the going out from evenness, because when a person stands in evenness there is no sin here, and when he goes out from evenness, either from the side of his body or from the side of his soul, he sins.

· (The Gra, on Mishlei, 12:15)  A wise person doesn’t do anything if he is not calm.

· (The Gra, Alim L’tirufah, year 596)  Tomorrow you will cry because yesterday you laughed.
If you have a frown on your face most of the time, your STARE-AND-GLARE won’t be as effective as if you have a smile on your face most of the time and then, while your recipient is smiling along with you, you suddenly change from a smile to a STARE-AND-GLARE.  That might be one reason why Rabbah would open his teachings with a joke, and then when everyone was laughing, he would plunge into the seriousness of his Talmudic discussion (Shabbos 30b).
