Of course, it’s a mitzvah for us to judge everyone favorably and that we must do at all times.
For most people, seeing the faults in other people comes easily and naturally. However, there are some people who can see no bad in anyone besides themselves. They blame themselves for everything and are therefore withdrawn, meek and unhappy. Then there are others who have only certain people in whom they can see no bad, usually someone on whom they are very dependent, or someone to whom they are physically attracted.
Such one-sided perceptions lead at best to disappointment, and often to worse consequences. It is for those people in those circumstances that The See-Their-Good / See-Their-Bad Glass is intended - so that they can see both sides of the other person - their good side and their bad side - and come to a more realistic perception of the person.
Just flip The See-Their-Good / See-Their-Bad Glass. Look through one side and see the person’s good, look through the other side and see the person’s bad. Keep flipping the glass from one side to the other until you can see both of the person’s sides. And when you can see both sides of the person, then judge him or her favorably.
