THE TALKING DIVEIKUS MACHINE
Helps you get closer to Hashem.
The Talking Diveikus Machine is a small black box, which emits a mechanically altered male voice saying short phrases which make you think of Hashem.
You can choose for the messages to be spoken either at random times (varying from a few seconds to many minutes apart), one every three minutes, or continuously (one shortly after the next). In addition, there is a button to press to replay the last message, and one to hear the next message (when you don’t want to wait). All the messages are printed on the box with an explanation of what the machine does, so that people can know what they’re getting into before buying it.

.jpg)
The messages are also available as a tape or MP3 so you can play it manually on your stereo or MP3 player, or as a computer program which will interrupt you with thoughts of Hashem while you’re using your computer (to help protect against the dangers of computer usage).
As can be seen from the list of the messages that follows, they are mostly ideas with which you are already familiar, because the purpose of the machine is more to remind than to educate - and by reminding, to help you get closer to Hashem.
PLEASE NOTE: Imagine that you’ve set the machine on “random play” and that you’re hearing each phrase one by one, each one coming some varying time period after the last message, when you don’t expect it. You’ve forgotten the last message and you’re preoccupied with what you’re now doing and suddenly you hear a short beep, followed by the next message. Hearing messages like these in this way, over a period of time, will train your mind to think of Hashem even when you’re away from the machine. (When you read these messages, try to pause for as long as possible after each one, for they lose some of their impact when read one after another.)
In addition, if changing your “heart of stone” into a “heart of flesh” is something you’ve been trying to do, you’ll find that actually doing what these messages tell you to do will help you in your effort. (See quotations about a heart of stone at bottom of the page.)

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF SOME RELEVANT QUOTATIONS
· (Succah 52a) R’ Avira explained - some say it was R’ Yehoshua, the son of Levi: The yetzer hora has seven names…. Yechezkiel called it “stone,” as it is said (Yechezkiel 36:26), “And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and I will give you a heart of flesh.”
· (Rav Dessler, Michtav Mei'Eliyahu, vol. 2, p. 243) The specific name of Hashem [yud-kei-vuv-kei] which was engraved on the staff [of Moshe Rabbeinu] hints at the true, deep thought of l’shmah: having intention just to the name of Hashem alone. An intention like this is able to break through the barrier of timtum (obstruction, dullness) and pierce through a heart of stone.
